Facial Oils Versus Moisturizers

Nowadays it seems there are never ending options when it comes to taking care of your skin. Scrubs, balms, polishes, moisturizers, serums, and oils—the list goes on. So what’s the difference? Today we are going to go over the “what, when, where, and why’s” of facial oils and moisturizers.

Facial oils and moisturizers are created with the same goal of moisturizing and hydrating your skin. While using one or the other is perfectly fine when it comes to a skincare routine, using both can create a powerful, positive affect on your skin.

Facial oils typically consist of fatty oils (usually omega) and antioxidants. They work to balance your skin’s oil production. It may seem counterproductive, but oil attracts oil. Therefore, using facial oil can be extremely beneficial if you have oily skin or dry skin, because it will balance the natural oil production.

Moisturizers, which include the subcategories of creams and balms, have always been the go-to when it comes to hydrating and moisturizing skin. These skincare products can be made with various ingredients, which is why it is vital to look at what’s inside before purchasing. Always remember, the more natural, the better! Typically the recipe includes water-based ingredients and the goal is to create a sealant that locks in moisture and protects skin from the environment.

Wondering when and where to apply these two items? Our TEN babes believe it’s always best to do a facial routine first thing in the morning and right before you go to sleep at night. How should you apply these items to get the most out of them? Great question!

First, wash your face with warm water, a clean, facial skin-friendly soap, and a soft towelette. PLEASE remember that makeup remover wipes do not count as washing your face!

From there, apply a couple drops of your facial oil to your skin. We recommend placing it high on your cheeks (but don’t get oil in your eye!). Rub oil in a gentle, circular motion with fingertips until fully absorbed. Next, apply a little more than a dime-sized amount of moisturizer to face with the same motion. Try not to touch your face afterwards, allowing both items to be absorbed and work on your skin!

Simple, easy, and productive—what else could you want for your skincare routine? Remember, hydration is always the answer! Ready to get your oil and moisturize-on?
