Let’s Talk Serums
What are serums? When should you use them? How do you use them? What do they do?
Here’s ALL THE DEETS on skincare serums, brought to you by TEN Skyncare!
What are serums?Skincare serums are the main event in your morning and night routine! Although all serums range in nutrients and ingredients, their overall purpose is to deliver high concentrations of active ingredients to your skin. Different types of serums perform different types of miracles. For example, TEN’s Hyaluronic Booster Serum delivers lasting hydration, while our Vitamin C Serum 20 is the elixir for aging and brightening! Serums are most often clear, gel-based, and more liquid-y than moisturizer. Serums are able to hydrate more effectively than creams and penetrate deep levels of the skin. Serums aren’t meant to replace moisturizers, but they can boost the hydrating effects of your moisturizer, while evening out your skin tone with topical retinols and ingredients.
When should you apply serum and where? At TEN, we believe applying your serum in the morning and night is plenty. Everyone’s skin is beautiful and different, but on average, it takes several weeks before your skin will respond to a new serum. Generally, you should use the product all over your face and neck, directly after cleansing your face with a gentle cleanser, like TEN’s Kale Cleanser. After cleansing, apply Advanced Retinol Serum, apply moisturizer, (maybe TEN’s Honey l'Occitane Naturally Infused Body Creme), and let dry.
What serums should I use?Serums are made for various skincare concerns and solutions, so it’s important you choose wisely, looking over the benefits and ingredients in each product to ensure they are truly effective. The following types of serums are most common:
- Anti-aging Serums: Combats fine lines, wrinkles, and works to tighten and brighten your skin. Look for ingredients such as retinol, caffeine, green tea, or hyaluronic acid. TEN’s Advanced Retinol Serum is perfect for this!
- Antioxidant Serums: These serums protect your skin from free radicals and can heal and repair skin. Our Advanced Vitamin C-20 Serum has all the right ingredients to protect your skin from daily irritants. What should you look for in an antioxidant-focused serum? Lots of vitamins, resveratrol, melatonin, and L-absorbic acid should do the trick!
- Hydrating and Toning Serums: Ingredients like hyaluronic acid, peptides, vitamin C, kojic acid, and glycolic acid are great indicators that a serum will hydrate and tone uneven skin. Our Hyaluronic Booster Serum is the number one choice for brightening, toning, and hydrating!
It’s important to know what you’re using on your skin, and why you’re using it! TEN believes education and knowledge is just as important as your skincare routine. Check out more of our products and find your skincare serum!
